Top 12 music festivals in Britain
The UK’s music festivals are world-renowned for its variety, quality and creative approach to the selection of sites. Whatever style you prefer – from classical to pop, from folk to rock in Britain there is a festival for every taste.
This year, the famous Glastonbury festival makes a break, but will not be bored: in Britain from January to December, hundreds of festivals are held, and in the summer, on weekends the event like we have to choose from a large list. To facilitate this, VisitBritain invites you to get acquainted with the twelve best music festivals 2012:
1.The Glyndebourne festival (Glyndebourne)

Lewes, East Sussex (Lewes, East Sussex)
Organized once one family and gained worldwide fame Glyndebourne is famous because it is the only UK festival of arts, which uses only renewable energy sources. In the framework of the festival on the same stage gathers musicians from different countries, and this year was no exception. The Rockness festival – a great chance to try to track down the Loch ness monster in the famous lake. This beautiful place is perfect for any special occasion. The speakers include Mumford and Sons, Noah and the Whale and top DJ Annie Mac.
June 15 – July 1
Gregynog is the oldest classical music festival in Wales. It was founded in 1933 and is still considered one of the most chamber music festivals. The festival takes place in a picturesque town on the Welsh border. Each year it focuses on a specific theme, and in 2012, the organizers drew inspiration from Venice. This year the festival program includes 6 of 6 exclusive debuts and performances specifically for Britain from the conductor and by Jordy Savall (Jordi Savall) and pianist Alessandro Taverna (Alessandro Taverna), Madrigal ensemble La Venexiana and classical music ensemble Accademia Bizantina. Some performances will be held at the National Museum Cardiff, but most of the program will sound amazing in the music salon of Gregynog Hall.
4.The Isle Of Wight Festival
22 – 24 June
The Isle of Wight is a place with amazing musical history and long-standing festival tradition. The famous festival on the island remembers performances by such iconic musicians as Bob Dylan (1969) and Jimi Hendrix (1970). This year the festival will be attended by Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen & the E. Street Band, as well as Elbow, Noel Gallagher, Jessie J and tiny Tempo.
5.Hop Farm Festival
29 June – 1 July
The Hop farm, Paddock wood, Kent (Paddock Wood, Kent)
“No sponsors, no brands, no celebrity” – the motto of the festival for experienced listeners who are looking for Kent farm classic festival atmosphere, cider, space and beautiful music: among the speakers this year – Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, Suede and Kool & The Gang.
6.Festival of the BT RIver of Music

This year a truly international festival of the BT River of Music will be held in London on several stages, which will include Asia, Europe, the Americas, Oceania and Africa. At these concerts along the river Thames allocated more than 160,000 free tickets. 7.Festival of folk music in Cambridge (Cambridge Folk Festival)

Held in the charming estate of Cambridge, this event is one of the largest folk festivals in the country. Cornbury Park, Oxfordshire (Oxfordshire)
Wilderness takes place in an old Oxford Park and a bit like the Cambridge festival Secret Garden Party, the tickets are already sold out. This festival is for those who want more than music: here the viewers will see theatrical performances, debates, horseback riding, Spa and awesome food from world-renowned chef Yotam Ottolenghi (Yotam Ottolenghi). The most awaited festival guests – Spanish Duo Rodrigo and Gabriela and the band Wilco.
9.The Green Man Festival
Glanusk Park, Wales
This festival offers a unique chance to spend three relaxing day in the beautiful Welsh Park that on weekends, usually closed to the public. Green Man has a reputation as one of the best festivals of Wales – this year in the program, van Morrison and Feist.

Hylands Park, Chelmsford (Chelmsford and Weston Park, Staffordshire
One of the most popular events of the year, V Festival always attracts big names and is held in one weekend on two stages. We already know that this year among the speakers you will see the Stone Roses, The Killers and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
11.End of the Road Festival
31 August – 2 September
Larmer Tree Gardens, North Dorset (North Dorset)
Against the backdrop of beautiful garden will sound mostly folk, Americana, psychedelic and alternative rock. Participation in the festival confirmed Grizzly Bear, Grandaddy, Dirty Three and funk-rockers Alabama Shakes.
12.The Bestival Festival
The Isle Of Wight
This year’s Glastonbury festival will be held, but Bestival ably compensates for his temporary absence and guarantees an unforgettable stay. Four days of live music and the best DJ, and Stevie wonder, New Order, The XX, Sigur Ros and DJ Rob Da Bank on the list of speakers.
